Георгий Жуков

Великий военачальник, маршал, министр обороны СССР. Четырежды Герой Советского Союза, кавалер двух орденов «Победа» и др.

Георгий Константинович Жуков (о нём также читайте в статье Александра Головкова «Зигзаги судьбы Маршала Победы» ) родился 19 ноября 1896 года в деревне Стрелковке Калужской области в семье крестьянина. Окончив три класса церковноприходской школы, Жуков поступил в ученики в скорняжную мастерскую в Москве. 20 августа 1915 года 18-летний скорняжный подмастерье Жуков был призван в армию. Пройдя краткий курс обучения, стал унтер-офицером Нижегородского драгунского полка. Далее колея его жизни пролегла через несколько войн. Первая мировая отметила унтер-офицера Георгия Жукова двумя Георгиевскими крестами. Гражданскую он завершил, командуя эскадроном, с орденом Красного Знамени на груди.

В межвоенное время Георгий Жуков вырос до звания комкора, при этом сравнительно благополучно миновал полосу репрессий 1937—1938 годов, выбивших большую часть высшего командного состава Красной армии.

Затем был Халхин-Гол — генеральная репетиция сражений Великой Отечественной войны, сквозь огонь которых Жуков прошёл до Берлина.

Военная карьера Георгия Жукова развивалась стремительно, подталкиваемая объективными обстоятельствами эпохи, но временами Жуков жестоко спотыкался на обстоятельствах субъективных, создаваемых власть имущими в Стране Советов.

Накануне Великой Отечественной войны Георгий Жуков, только что назначенный тогда начальником Генерального штаба, не мог даже намекнуть на необходимость готовиться к традиционному для России сценарию тяжёлой оборонительной войны, с глубоким отступлением в глубь своей территории и последующим контрнаступлением. Соответственно сталинскому тезису о войне малой кровью на чужой территории самая мощная группировка советских войск была развёрнута в узкой приграничной полосе, в конфигурации, неудобной для обороны.

Жуков в октябре 1941 года был назначен командующим Западным фронтом и ответственным за оборону Москвы. Никому другому Сталин не мог в тот момент доверить судьбу столицы и всей страны. Никому, даже самому себе — только Жукову, который побил немцев под Ельней и отстоял Ленинград. Жуков на тот момент казался (и был на самом деле) единственным военачальником, способным остановить роковое наступление вермахта.

2. Madonna Louise Ciccone (/tʃɪˈkoʊni/; Italian: [tʃikˈkoːne]; born August 16, 1958) is an American singer, songwriter, actress, and businesswoman. She achieved popularity by pushing the boundaries of lyrical content in mainstream popular music and imagery in her music videos, which became a fixture on MTV. Madonna is known for reinventing both her music and image, and for maintaining her autonomy within the recording industry. Music critics have acclaimed her musical productions, which have generated some controversy. Often referred to as the "Queen of Pop", she is often cited as an influence by other artists.

Born in Bay City, Michigan, Madonna moved to New York City in 1977 to pursue a career in modern dance. After performing in the music groups Breakfast Club and Emmy, she signed with Sire Records (an auxiliary label of Warner Bros. Records) in 1982 and released her self-titled debut album the following year. She followed it with a series of commercially and critcally successful albums, including the Grammy Award winners Ray of Light (1998) and Confessions on a Dance Floor (2005). Throughout her career, Madonna has written and produced most of her songs, with many of them reaching number one on the record charts, including "Like a Virgin", "Into the Groove", "Papa Don't Preach", "Like a Prayer", "Vogue", "Frozen", "Music", "Hung Up", and "4 Minutes".

Madonna's popularity was further enhanced by her film roles, including Desperately Seeking Susan (1985), Dick Tracy (1990), and Evita (1996); the latter earned her a Golden Globe Award for Best Actress. However, most of her other films have been panned by critics. Her other ventures include fashion design, writing children's books, and filmmaking. She has been acclaimed as a businesswoman, particularly after she founded entertainment company Maverick (including the label Maverick Records). In 2007 she signed an unprecedented US $120 million 360 deal with Live Nation.

Having sold more than 300 million records worldwide, Madonna is recognized as the best-selling female recording artist of all time by Guinness World Records. The Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) listed her as the best-selling female rock artist of the 20th century and the second best-selling female artist in the United States, with 64.5 million certified albums. According to Billboard, Madonna is the highest-grossing solo touring artist of all time, earning US $1.31 billion from her concerts since 1990. She was ranked at number two, behind only The Beatles, on the Billboard Hot 100 All-Time Top Artists, making her the most successful solo artist in the history of American singles chart. Madonna became one of the five founding members of the UK Music Hall of Fame and was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in her first year of eligibility.

Park Overall

Greeneville has watched Park Overall grow up, and succeed as a nationally known actress.
Last night the nation learned a lot about Overall when LifetimeTV aired its "Intimate Portrait" from 7 to 8 p.m.
It did so prior to Park's latest movie, "When Andrew Came Home," which began at 9 p.m..
Hostess Meredith Vieira introduced Overall on "Intimate Portrait" as "outspoken, unpredictable, unmistakably Southern. Nobody's little belle and everybody's favorite deadpan comedian."
Narrator Andrew McCarthy added that Overall is "feisty, free-spirited and opinionated with an unmistakable Tennessee twang," while the actress and Greeneville native was shown horseback riding with the mountains East Tennessee as a backdrop.
In a telephone comment this morning, Overall lamented the fact that so little of Greeneville and East Tennessee was shown in the hour-long television show, although fliming was done at several local locations.
There were a few shots of Tusculum College, where her mother, the late Frances Overall, who held a doctorate in English and who died last Jan. 9, had taught. Tusculum College also was Park's alma mater, she having received a degree in English there in 1981.
The televised broadcast showed Park's early years, using still photographs of her mother and of her with her parents.
Overall is also the daughter of Thomas "Jack" Overall, with whom Overall was shown a number of times during the show.
"Intimate Portrait"also focused on Park's struggle with diabetes, which was diagnosed when she was just 9 years old - during the year her mother took her to England to live, and on her activism as an environmentalist.
